Yesterday was Oct. 2. Today it’s Oct. 3.
But yesterday on Oct. 2, we broke records. In honor of Child Health Day, CowboyThon made a commitment to register 620 dancers in honor of the 62 children that enter a Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals local affiliate every minute. With large amounts of planning, passion and energy from our Leadership and Big Committee members and huge hearts for our miracle children at the center of our efforts, we were able to reach beyond our goal and added 637 new dancers to our CowboyThon family. This was the largest one-day recruitment push in CowboyThon history!
So how did we do it?
The success of the day would not have been possible without the overwhelming support and hands-on efforts from members of our Leadership and Big Committee teams, who were each encouraged to recruit four new dancers to the organization over the course of the day.
Beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing until 5 p.m., representatives from CowboyThon interacted with students on campus at two central locations, International Lawn and Chi O Clock/the Student Union Plaza.
Throughout the entire day, students were able to to register using one of three ways: 1) bursar forms (only offered to those who live on campus), 2) cash forms at one of our tabling locations and 3) online registration.
In the morning, we gave students donuts upon registering. Students could receive T-shirts from registering on site as well.
We’re always looking for creative conversation starters. This one has become a tradition, started last year by our vice president of operations, Austin.
Furry friends were welcomed, too!
In the evening, members of our Morale committee canvassed the library and offered snacks to students while recruiting them as dancers.
Our engagement with potential dancers was not limited just to on-campus interaction. We also planned and executed a strategic social media outreach plan to maintain a presence with dancers on social networks.
The day before Child Health Day, we posted this photo that shows images of our miracle children.
We used the photos as props for the first video we posted for the day, which explained the goal and purpose of Child Health Day. (seen below)
Some of our organization’s representatives were able to tell their personal stories about why they are committed for the kids.
At 5 p.m., we were still 370 registrants from reaching our goal. We posted the graphic below to tie back to our year-long campaign, The Time is Now, and to motivate members of our team to work against the clock to reach our significant number of 620 dancers for the 62 children that enter a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital every minute.
We also planned and posted multiple promotional codes throughout the day to incentivize students to register.
As the hours quickly passed, it soon became crunch time. We offered a final promotional code to help us reach our goal by midnight: 12TIL12.
At this time, we engaged in a thorough texting push to reach out to our final recruits.
And then, we did it! While gathered in our Hype Room in the Student Union, we made CowboyThon history.
Where better to celebrate than Whataburger?
We warmly welcomed 637 new CowboyThon family members to our movement! We - but more importantly, the ill and injured children of Oklahoma - are so happy to have you.
